So I am currently reading Fourth Wing. I’ve heard both positives and negatives about this book? Honestly, I haven’t read enough fantasy books to compare this book to or to say it’s bad so every time I hear something bad about it. I’m not sure I can agree. However, I can understand. For those who have possibly read better fantasy books than it I guess I get it.
I will say so far the one thing that has annoyed me a bit about this book is the amount of times Violet constantly reminds us that she’s attracted to Xaden, therefore, he distracts her from doing something. The nickname as well…Violence? I really hope he stops calling her that soon.
Other than that. I do sort of enjoy the cliché story. It’s refreshing for me at least. As someone who’s starting to get back into series and reading generally. I kind of like Violets strive to be better though knowing she’s weaker than others. It didn’t exactly stop her and she snatched some pretty cool dragons. (I’m slightly biased about this book because I love anything with dragons in it. ^^) but yes. It isn’t bad is what I’m trying to say.
What do you guys think?

Overall, this sub dislikes 4th Wing. Overall, the r/Romantasy sub likes it, though it’s controversial. It’s sequel seems less well received. Idk how the fantasy and romance subs feel, but I’d guess dislike and maybe like, respectively. It’s also pretty controversial on teh r/YAlit sub, iirc.
Personally, I thought the middle bit with the dragon and magic focus was neat, but that the first and last bits were awful, full of holes, and cringy info dumps and informed character traits. The fanbase is exhausting, which pushed me to dislike it more. Also the author has written like 20 books before it, so she’s not a new, amateurish author like I thought, which took away the last scrap of goodwill I would have given her, that she might improve in the future if she’s not rushed.
