So I recently finished house of the dragon season 1, which has wanting me to read the game of thrones books, but the thing is I don’t really read much, I’m not a imaginative person so reading isn’t much for me, I’ve only read 2 book series, first being tom gates when I was young, and the second being harry potter books, which I finished all of them in 1 week, when my family went camping and I was bored so I took my sister’s books. So other than those 2 series I have never read anything else, maybe because I watched the shows, reading the books will be easier, since thats also the reason I read the harry potter books because I had already watched the movies making it easier to read

    1. Try it! The books are amazing and you don’t wanna put them down. The main thing that discourages people are the huge amount of names and characters, but try not to sweat it too much, many are insignificant and you can use a wiki online as an accessible ”index” of characters and places

    2. Sure. Why not? Get just the first one, and if you don’t like it then you are under no obligation to read any more, and also not out much money (or effort if borrowed).

They are great! I devoured them faster than any other books I’ve ever read. Kind of a bummer that the series is unfinished and is likely never going to be… it’s been 19 years since the last one.

I love reading fantasy and read the first 2… just couldn’t get into it. It wasn’t bad, I just couldn’t see it being worth my time investing in all the rest of the books. Try the first one and if you like it go for it but if it’s a no go, check out Brandon Sanderson Stormlight archive series. If you love fantasy and a great story, you’ll be hooked😉

    5. They are great, but unfinished. Unless you consider the HBO series as the ending. I personally would not seeing as though Martin hasn’t completed the books yet.

    6. Even though I loved them… No. If you don’t mind very intriguing stories abruptly ending in the middle of everything then keep going, otherwise you better stay clear of that saga. You end up making theories about what will happen next, about the world, you’ll care about most of the many many many subplots… And then you finish the 5th book, knowing you’ll never see a sixth.

G.R.R.M is pretending he’ll finish it but it’s clear that we’ll ever see the next book in the best case scenario, which would be the sixth out of seven.

It’s a pity, but he got stuck and he seems to not be intentioned to keep writing. I recall a very old article where another writer mentioned him saying he accidentally killed a necessary character for where he wanted to push the story, I’m not sure it’s something fixable for a world that complex.

      Rest In Permanently waiting

    7. Maybe borrow them from someone or the library, I didn’t think they were worth owning them (aka I wouldn’t read them more than once). I found the last one insanely boring.

no… it’s endless sword and sorcery melodrama, and I do mean endless. Just leave them alone. Your brain will thank you.

Yes, at least the 1st one to see if you like it.

I first came across Game of Thrones after I was in jail in 2012 (contempt of court) someone had a copy of the 2nd book A Clash of Kings with a bunch of pages missing. I started reading it having no clue it was the 2nd book in the series. I was in jail for 60 days so I had my GF at the time send me the next 2 books and it became my favorite book series. When I got out I discovered it was a somewhat new show on HBO and remember telling everyone I knew about it.

I take some credit for making it so popular 😏.
