Tbh, I don’t think I’d ever recommend ‘A Little Life’ to anyone because it’s such an awful book imo. If you’d like a book that handles similar topics as ‘A Little Life’ in a way that doesn’t fetishise the struggles of the mc I’d recommend ‘My Dark Vanessa’. It’s an exceptionally dark book that follows a character coming to terms with the fact that she was groomed by her teacher in school. The book is well written, the topics are handled with care, and though the book doesn’t have a happy ending it’s (unsurprisingly) a very depressing read. But it has hope, and ultimately gives these topics the care they deserve unlike ‘A Little Life’ (if you enjoyed it you enjoyed it though, this is how I view the book).
Idk what you’re going through rn, but I hope you feel better soon 🙁

Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow reminded me of A Little Life but not as relentlessly sad. (Still has sad parts though)

Shuggie Bain. Beautifully written; great characters; absolutely heartbreaking.

I havent found anything similar yet 😔 was going to make a similar post soon lol.
Im currently reading The Goldfinch and The Secret History by Donna Tartt and both of them have started out promising.

Another Brooklyn. It has the same premise of a little life, following 4 friends navigating life. It focuses on themes like denial, grief, death and womanhood. But also themes like religion, racism and classism.
