I posted this as a comment on a thread but it was pretty old and thought I’d ask the question myself..
I’m half way through this book and started googling about it to see if others felt how I did in not really following it, I get all of that now and happy with the explanations, but I’m left with a question still.. how do people find it funny, let alone one of the funniest books ever written?!?
I get that it’s silly, and humorous, i’ve cracked a few mental smiles, but I’ve read people say they’ve laughed out loud, or have tears in their eyes, that’s some serous laughter! In my mind comedy is set up by so much more than words, and it’s left me thinking maybe I’m not able to create the joke in my mind, but in my real life network I’m literally always the funny one!? 😙📯
Maybe I’m trying to read it too quickly so it just becomes words not jokes, saying that i’m already a slow reader, I can read much faster but it feels like watching something on fast forward and not enjoyable if I go too much faster than my talking voice, and a joke in anything more than a talking voice certainly can’t have the timing right?!? I do listen to podcasts on 2x, but not for the entertaining aspect, just the information.
Anyway, suffice to say I just don’t really get it, but seems many don’t, maybe I’m just part of the uneducated bunch. I’m going to finish it because I hate only part way getting through anything, and sometimes the end is where it makes sense, fingers crossed!
If there are specific parts that people find really funny can you please point them out so I can read again and see where I’m going wrong? Cheers 😀
