    Hi all,

I’m part of the “gifted child and avid reader to burned out adult” pipeline. Before high school, I read voraciously, but required reading stole my love of books. I’ve tried to get back into reading for over 10 years with no success; I have piles of unread books around my apartment. I still feel like a kid in a candy store whenever I go to a library or bookstore, so I believe (hope?) I can be at least a habitual reader.

I’m in an intense grad school program, so I am not looking to read the next great American novel. I generally enjoy mysteries/thrillers and historical fiction, and I am also open to reading non-fiction. The last book I loved was The Silent Patient; it was the most excited I’ve felt about a book in a long time. I also enjoyed Into the Wild, and my favorite childhood book was Flowers for Algernon.

Ultimately, I’m looking for a book that will draw me in from the first page and keep my attention until the end, regardless of the genre. I miss the excitement of reading, and I’m hoping I can find some inspiration here. Thank you in advance for any and all suggestions!!
