The only book I’ve read so far that fits my criteria is *The Captive Prince*. The writing is excellent, the plot is too interesting to shelve for later, and the characters who are meant to be enemies are actual enemies before they become lovers in the slow burn, but once they become lovers they maintain their problems, their personalities, and their agency regarding other plot related matters and characters. Side characters are 3 diminutional, and overall it’s one of the best books I’ve ever read. That being said, if you don’t like dark mxm that covers heavy themes, I absolutely do not recommend this book to you.
My point is, I want something like that. It doesn’t have to cover the same themes, have characters with similar personalities, or anything along those lines (though I’d welcome such a book if you know of one), but a book with a great plot that is well written in regards to the characters and their emotions. Basically, if the MC isn’t an idiot or a caricature of a human being, and their relationship isn’t 100% toxic, and the plot is gripping, then I am interested. The captive prince is a quality example of what I’m looking for.
