I recently read a post apocalyptic novel that completely omitted women’s realities, even birth control! Predictably, it also showed no understanding of the realities of childrearing: the children were always angelic, clean, scrubbed, and uncomplaining, even though everything they’d enjoyed or needed – television, good food, school, diapers, etc – was suddenly and inexplicably gone. This same novel had a character in a wheelchair but no explanation of how she was managing in a remote, northern winter with no snowplows, no cars, no electricity, etc.
Can you recommend a novel that does *not* make the above mistakes?
