“No longer human” is a book that tells the story of someone who has a complex way at looking at and understanding other human beings.
The point of the book and us following Yozo is to understand that this guy has issues that are screwed in so tight that it’s impossible to loosen the screw. Pair that with the negative and nihilistic thoughts that live in his head he comes to the realization that their is no hope for someone like him.
Yozo also struggles to find and build genuine connections with other humans. Everyone he meets he fears of upsetting so the first thing he does, almost as if it were instinct, is to people please. As an adult Yozo comes to the realization that’s he never had and will probably never have a genuine connection with someone. As he is nothing more than a clown trying to gain the applause of his audience.
I found myself on a personal level relating on so many things with the main character as one of the subjects this book tackles is mental health. But not just mental health it covers people pleasing, fear of confrontation, chasing passion, and resorting to addiction to cope with the pain of life.
This is a very depressing book and from a certain perspective one could say it leaves you with the feelings of hopelessness. However, I also found it beautiful in a way. As the main character comes to accept the idea that everything passes in the end.
First read of the year what a book.
