My cousin is just finishing up college, and is really looking forward to not having to read *anything* that’s in any way related to her degree (buh-bye business, economics and associated legislation stuff!). She has asked me, as the only science grad in the family, to recommend a nice popular science-type book, not too dense or head-melty, but still interesting and chewy. I’ve one or two selected already. I think.
I have my own personal favourites, but at this stage I’m second-guessing myself, and looking for outside opinions. Help?

Don’t know if this fits your criteria, but What If by Randall Munroe is a fun read all about solving ridiculous questions with serious scientific responses.
The Demon Haunted World by Carl Sagen
How about the “Science of the Discworld’ books? It touches on a large number of scientific themes, the scientific method, and does so in a humorous way.
