I’m looking for a novel to read that isn’t tragic. I love the writing style and romantic aspects of novels from the 1800’s, but any great classic that encompasses deep philosophical ideals would work. I’m fine with some sad sections as I think it’s necessary, and am also not looking for comedy books or ones with predictable endings.

For reference, I really enjoyed The Count of Monte Cristo (translated) and Farenheight 451. Any books similar would be great (long, short, it doesn’t matter).

I recently read Frankenstein and it’s probably the best book I’ve ever read regarding the way it was written, the storyline, and the ideas it encompassed, but it left me feeling incredibly miserable and in great despair for months to come after reading it. I am very sensitive and unfortunately cannot stand to read a book like that despite my deep affection for it.

Please do not include any spoilers (a synopsis is fine if you want); thank you very much! 🙂
