I was just reading shatter me, and got the novellas online delivered to my kindle for FREE! And suddenly, I remembered something a friend said to me last year, “Why do you waste your money on physical books when it’s the same to just get them online for free?” and now I’m having an existential crisis. Like, I got the online novellas, because I don’t want to spend money on books that are like less than 150 pages. However, in retrospect, why don’t I just get every book onlien if its free?
I’ve always been a reader, however, I’ve gotten more into it since booktok and booktube and all that became less of a niche thing, and so I’ve been purchasing many books, however, every time I place my credit card on the machine, my friend’s voice echoes in my head and I feel an overwhelming guilt, because I know she’s right. Now, I’m wondering whether I literally just buy books for the aesthetics of having physical books, and not actually because I enjoy reading.
Someone validate my wallet lightening hobby of buying books when I could just as easily get them for free.
