This is a book I just want to theorize about with other readers. (Spoiler heavy!)
Do you think Fintan did kill Zoe then? I didn’t expect the ending, but he always made me uncomfortable with his fixation on Zoe, as well as the way he seemed intent on really slandering everyone else in her life. Although they were all unreliable narrators, he just bothered me. Still, it seems obvious that he was living in a deep lie and was a bad person, but without a body, we don’t know if he killed her, just that he was obsessed.
Also, did you guys feel that the meta involvement of the author strengthened the true crime or detracted from it? I could go either way, but I think overall, I thought it was kind of interesting. They just didn’t really do anything with it, I feel.
I thought it was weird that Andrew and Kim ended up together in the end. I get that they had that initial connection and that they shared this long term trauma, but it felt like it was forced to create a neat ending.
I did like Kim the most, and I thought her kidnapping story that was solved but dead-ended was kind of an interesting trail to follow, especially as it really highlighted the way she felt like her sister’s double.
Finally, the dad was just disgusting. Not much to say on that. He just was.
