‘Whoever knows history is doomed to watch others repeat it’, I read in a YouTube comment somewhere.
It got me thinking; I really didn’t know anything much about the history of the world. Like, I knew what certain important events were called, but not their details or the reason behind them, such as the Holocaust, the Soviet union and communism, American civil war, pearl harbour, China, Vietnam and a lot more.
History was only taught in primary school for us, and I think that’s a real shame. I used to think it was boring and all about memorizing dates, but now I realize it’s so much more. History is essential for us to move forward into our future without having to repeat mistakes already made and to understand why we are the way we are.
So I was hoping you could recommend books that would help cure my ignorance, preferably ones that talk about most of these issues, but others that only focus on one event or person are fine too. Any other resources such as lectures and websites are also appreciated. Thanks!
