    While there are local libraries that have these types of subscriptions (which I love), there is no global organisation where you can pay a fixed amount each month in return for (almost) all books that come out.

    It seems like a book and album are about the same level of work, costs and economic potential. So why hasn’t the same happened in literature as it has in music? I don’t know what the financial implications would be for the writers and publishers, and maybe that is why I don’t understand it. But it think it would be a great thing for readers, essentially make the most fundamental source of knowledge available to everyone with an internet connection, at say $20/month.
