First of all I found Theo an engaging character and somewhat relatable, I think anyone with any sort of trauma at all ( and most of us do have something in our past) would find him relatable to an extent and he’s a well-written character. The little self-monologue at the end I feel signifies that he could never fully overcome his self-image/respect issues and always viewed himself as a monster, continuing with an unfaithful wife in an obviously dead relationship and also how he thought of himself as a cold-blooded killer when his entire adventure at the grove was him acting out of guilt in a very odd way.

The parallels between him and Alicia were quite obvious, they both had issues and on paper had partners who meant the world to them and in a way took care of them, only to be betrayed. They both had abusive fathers. Theo was far more expressive and sought help whereas Alicia kept it all bottled in. I was confused about whether the man she saw was real or not but something about the way she wrote I always thought he was real.
I don’t read a lot so maybe that’s why I personally didn’t find the end predictable and thought all the characters were engaging.
Only negative aspect is the end conclusion which is basically ” If a person is fucked up enough therapy won’t help them doesn’t matter how much they try” which is obviously bullshit.
