I want to read a character-driven book about a protagonist learning to be happy with what they’ve got.

Bonus points if…
. They want something and don’t get if.
. Someone else in the story has what they want, even better.
. They have an inferiority complex that they need to get over.

If you know of any, please let me know.

Tom Lake gave me these vibes (you kind of have to get to the end to get it though.) One of the take aways, a simple life is often the best life.
I don’t remember all the details, but The Midnight Library might fit the bill!
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine is a good take on this, I’d say
Candide by Voltair
