i have pretty severe ocd and the past 18ish months i’ve been housebound. i have myself convinced 2024 is the year it all hits the fan and my country experiences American Civil War 2.0.

any books—i’m more looking for character driven than plot driven—that can help me sort of poor man’s ERP my death/apocalypse/war ocd? i don’t want 100 years after, i want “yesterday i was fine and today i’m scrounging for my life”. i want “my countrymen want me dead and i have no idea who is safe to trust”. i want LOTS of mayhem and death and fear and uncertainty.

books/authors i love: a canticle for leibowitz (SO GOATED its the best book of all time); the life as we knew it series (kiddy but nostalgic lol); china miéville; deliverance; cormac mccarthy; moby dick. i suppose my favorite kinds of books are sweeping character-driven narratives?—where it’s less “what are we doing to the plot” and more “what’s the plot doing to us”.
