I am very be late to the party. I have just finished reading The alchemist by Paulo Coelho and right at the end there is a chapter, “epilogue”. Before reading that chapter I had a good laugh right at the end. I feel like the fact that there is an epilogue to all this seems like the author added it by the suggestion of an editor or the publishing company and it was just not supposed to be there. If the epilogue part wasn’t added, I still think the book would have had a satisfying ending for me. Santiago, would have understood what it was all about and used the gold left for his life instead. Maybe, I am just wrong but I don’t feel like the epilogue was necessary and was added for a more happy ending and to avoid public outrage.
