Husband (31) has recently been making more time to read as it’s something he really loves to do. He is currently rereading the name of the wind trilogy, other books he’s read I know he likes are the gone series and pendragon series I’m looking for something potentially along those lines? He likes dystopian books as well as classics like the godfather. His birthday is coming up and I’d like to surprise him with a new book or series. Thanks!

    1. The Millenium series by Stieg Larsson (half of the books were written by David Lagercrantz after Larsson’s death) is kind of like The Godfather in that it deals with crime syndicates, but the crime bosses are the villains in this series. (Note: the first book, *The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo*, is a not about crime lords but is instead a murder mystery that is almost completely separate from the rest of the series; don’t ask me why).

The Broken Earth trilogy by NK Jemisin is a good dystopian fantasy series where people with supernatural abilities are forced into indentured servitude and every so often there’s a global-scale natural disaster that sets civilization back a couple hundred years.

The Mistborn trilogy (the original 3 books) by Brandon Sanderson is reminiscent of *The Name of the Wind* in that it has elaborate world-building, is dark and gritty, and has a really engrossing magic system.

Red Rising (Pierce Brown) starts what is now a sextet of books (two theoretically separate trilogies).

Josiah Bancroft’s ‘Books of Babel’ series is amazing and based on what he’s read might be *right* up his alley.

The Nevernight Chronicles by Jay Kristoff (trilogy of books) would hit the same sweet spot.

Edited to add: there are some awesome box sets of the Dune series (the 5 original Frank Herbert books) that would make an amazing gift, and a good box set of the Three Body Problem trilogy that would also make a really fun gift. I like the idea of giving books in a complete set, designed and packaged as a single unit.
