Hi everyone! I recently started reading (listening to audiobooks) books again as of 2023 and am looking for some suggestions for some high stakes fantasy and or sci Fi books. I’m currently reading a fantasy/romance series popularized on tik tok and social media. While enjoyable, it’s pretty predictable and has a consistent theme of main and side characters facing unwinnable odds and still coming out on top. That’s fine every now and then but I’m not a fan when it happens every single challenge/fight.
I’m looking for fantasy and or sci Fi books that are unpredictable and have high stakes. Books that aren’t afraid of character deaths or taking major losses. I think I just like a little more realism and the feeling of consequences actually feeling like consequences. Preferably a series or book that isn’t mainstream like game of thrones and lord of the rings.
