Folks, I’ve read at least half of COMC five times but only managed to finish it the first time.
I was SOOO captivated by the young romantic Edmund Dantes’ hopes, unjust imprisonment, escape and return to his hometown.
However, I really struggled to care about the other main character, the Count, whose hatred, machinations and painfully slowly revenge and overtook him.
I appreciate that is the point: he was a different person.
But I didn’t have the same appetite for his revenge as I did his liberation.
Anyone else feel the same?

Yep, exactly my experience. I’ve started reading Monte Cristo and the first part was very captivating, I was reading all my spare time. But the second part, when Dantes returned to France, different subplots got me bored, and I just started read less and less and eventually stopped completely.
Partly it has to do that I read it from the screen, and I have tendency not to finish electronic books, I prefer paper. Still it was way too long, and boring at times.
It’s kinda long, but it’s so good I got through it pretty quick
