I’ve been reading the source material for a lot of my favourite film adaptations lately (The World According to Garp was the most recent until now.) I had seen the movies of most long before reading the books. I didn’t even know that ‘What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?’ was based on a book, but I just finished it in a day and a half (usually takes me weeks to get through a book) and it knocked me back hard.
Has anyone else read this? How did you feel about it? Otherwise, have you got any books that may not be as well known as they’re filmic counterparts?
