I’m looking for a collection of short stories where the main theme is futility of human connection. The yearning of humans to seek connection to feel complete but overtime realizing it lacks something or you grew out of relationship. All that’s left in the end is ghost to haunt you as you feel numb/lonely. Or maybe hint at the fact that there is something wrong with you that you can’t fit in the society (you can’t accept/learn the transactional aspect of relationship) like in the works of Kōbō Abe, Osamu Dazai. The focus should be sadness and loneliness not the anxiety I’m sure past century French group Sartre, Camus, Beckett had written about anxiety caused due to above aspect of human behavior. The stories should explore this aspect in different sort of relationships like parent-child, lovers, friends, siblings, colleagues.
I’m looking for feelings like the songs here she comes by Slowdive, sometimes by my bloody valentine, Ashamed by Health. Other media which explores these themes are manga Kokou no Hito, Goodnight Punpun and anime Neon Genesis Evangelion.
