I am an artist and art professor looking for recommendations for books that will help me understand math on a more meaningful level than the math classes I took in high school and college.
I have heard artists and musicians talk about math as incredibly creative. I haven’t experienced math in that way, and would like to. I was definitely taught how to pass math exams, instead of how to understand the concepts on a deeper level.
I am pretty comfortable using basic math in my day to day life as an artist — measuring, proportions, etc. Of course I could always improve on these skills, but I think I’m mostly interested in learning a bit about the ‘magical’ and more creative side of math. I do well with workshop-type books where I follow a weekly plan and complete activities. I’d prefer to work with a book that’s accessible so I can do it on my own, but I’m also open to working with a tutor occasionally, in case if you have a recommendation for a great book that is a bit more challenging for an adult beginner.
Thank you so much and Happy New Year.
