Tw: Abuse, stalking, bullying
It’s seriously messing up with my head what type of impact booktok is having on these teen age girls without them realising shit. I have been a avid for most of my life and recently got in a reading slump. I took some recommendations off booktok to get out of it and let me tell you, it’s fucked up there.
I read the so called ” Romance” books these booktok girls go around recommending and calling them a 5 star, the next classic, epitome of romance and what not when all these books have is some f*cking smut.
Booktok is messing with new reader (especially teenage girls) and their understanding of love. They romantise everything from abuse to stalking ( If you liked haunting adeline, take some therapy sessions please and don’t defend the book by the shied of so called “dark romance”.)
I read Twisted love recently and call me a hater but it was one of the worst piece of romance literature. Ava character was okay but Alex (the so called God of booktok) was a such a bland and asshole character. He was so unlikeable I swear. He was overly dominant and looked like the kind of guy who would end up murdering someone. (I DNF the book at about 50%, so i don’t know if he actually murder someone or not). It was so overrated, so cringe, I just don’t have words to describe how bad this book was.
Came across an edit of some book yesterday that goes like “When he kisses her after bullying and abusing her for months because he was is love with her the whole time.”

!!!??? Shut the f*ck up
Seriously, why are bully romance even a thing? No sane person in real thing would endure such a thing. Bully romances are a disrespect to actual victims of it smh.
Narrowing it down,
I have no problem with smut in romance books but sadly booktok has narrowed down such a diverse genre just to s*x. All it takes to write a bestseller romance today is loads of smut, a asshole rich mc and sprinkle of some actual love (optional).
Options appreciated.
