I’ve been in a few discussions recently and the topic was that books getting published are often following the trends in ethnicities/race rather than making a broader effort to enhance diversity, be it in authors or characters. The downside being that it doesn’t offer lasting support to these authors in the following years because they’re no longer considered to be “trending”

The diversity of authors coming out with books is tied to the moment because the “default” is not a bipoc author or character. This may be more noticeable in some genres than others.

What are you’re thoughts? If it is true, is there a way to fix it or are the publishers actively trying to fix it? Is it more noticeable in some genres than others? Is there one (bipoc) that is always more trendy?
If you think this is untrue, why not?
