Netflix recently released the trailer for Leave the World Behind, which reminds me of Knock at the Cabin, which is based on the book The Cabin at the End of the World. There are major similarities between the two, one can’t help but making the comparison. Both are movies based on books, both stories are about collapse, and having read both books, both end in an open-ended manner. Both can also be read as social commentary: Leave is on race and class, and The Cabin is on gay marriage, faith and online extremism.
I can say that Leave’s prose is more gorgeous and it seems to be written for a specific segment of liberal literati audience, while The Cabin is more structured and impactful with defined sequences, consequences and descriptions of violence.
What are your thoughts and which book you personally like more?
