I’m 23yr old man, and my father (54) passed away this morning. Was wondering if anyone had any good books I could get lost in, could be a book specifically about grieving, or some completely wild adventure fiction book. Open to any and all suggestions, trying to keep my mind occupied and be in front of a screens less
Thank you all !

I am sorry your dad died. He was much too young. I hope you have a decent support system. I wish I had a book to suggest.. take care-
A book that helped me ‘get away from it all’ was Blake Crouch’s man-on-the-run thriller **Dark Matter**. It ramps up in the first few pages and doesn’t slow down. It has a sci-fi basis.
Whereas *Dark Matter* is a little noirish, Martha Wells’ *Murderbot Diaries* of sci-fi novellas includes a humorous element. They follow a cyborg that hires out as security to humans at the edge of the galaxy. The first one is **All Systems Red**.
[In a situation similar to yours, I just went numb. Sort of one-foot-in-front-of-the-other. Perhaps that will happen with you.]
I’m so sorry. If you’re look specifically for books about grief *H is for Hawk* is phenomenal. If you’re looking for escapism I’ve been reading the Arsène Lupin series (think Sherlock Holmes but a dapper thief instead of a detective) and really enjoying them because they’re really a series of short stories that fit together into an overarching plot so you can read one “episode” at a time. The Netflix series loosely based on the books is also very good.
A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness is a sad and lovely book about a boy losing his mother. It’s a special book and I highly recommend it.
i’m so proud of him for always being so close to me. he was always so supportive of me and always loved me, even though i was sick of him mentioning that he was the best doctor he had ever had…
I am so sorry for your loss. Have you read Jonathan Livingston Seagull yet?
