Hi all,
I’m looking to dive into more books defining genres/sub-genres. There are some clear winners, but I would like to explore more seminal works.
I’ve compiled a bit of a list, and would like to keep building it.
– 1984/Brave New World: Dystopian
– HP Lovecraft: Cosmic Horror
– Homer: Mythos & mythology
– Tales of Earthsea/Tolkein: High Fantasy
– Dracula: Gothic
– Neuromancer: Cyberpunk
– Dune: Sci fi
Some things I would like to find:
– Magical realism
– romance (pride and prejudice?)
– Thrillers (ie. Dan Brown inspirations)
– Cosmic scale sci-fi (ie. Star Wars, Foundation)
– Meditations on self (ie. The Secret, The prophet)
– anything else that comes to mind.
Looking forward to seeing what you think, and please disagree if you think someone else was more influential in defining a genre.
Ps. Happy 2024!
