I need suggestions for bedtime books! We just finished the Little House books, and he really liked them, but especially Farmer Boy (we even got Farmer Boy goes West).
I’m looking for another book or series with the same pacing and tone, but all the recommendations I can find online tend to be either girly books, or basically Little House copycats. We are not American and there is only so much I want to read about the American West/pioneers. Are there other books like little house that cover a different countries, Australia, UK or Europe?
Otherwise books with the same reading level and pacing as The Little House books, as they were about perfect for him. We’ve tried some other authors and a lot of the books for that age tend to be either humorous or fantasy and he just doesn’t seem to get the humour, he also seems to prefer stories that are “real”, or at least based in reality… He always asks if it is real, and gets very excited if I can tell him what elements of the story are real or exist in real life. We read “fortunately the milk” and he was pretty puzzled by it lol.
I don’t mind if girls are the main characters, but he does enjoy books about boys a bit better.
Any ideas?

There is an Australian book called ‘Mad as rabbits’ that I loved and had a few parallels.
The Magic Tree House books are shorter and have some fantasy basis, but based on real historical events or periods. Those might be worth trying out.
A Girl of the Limberlost by Gene Stratton-Porter
Sarah, Plain and Tall by Patricia MacLachan. If he likes this it has several sequels.
Try this one, my kids LOVED it. My Father’s Dragon by Ruth Stiles Gannett.
Sounds like your son enjoys historic fiction. I can’t remember most of the historic fiction books I read as a kid, but I did enjoy The Magic Treehouse series.
I’ve not read any of these [books](https://somethewiser.com/middle-grade-historical-fiction) yet, but this is a great list of historic fiction for kids that isn’t just all American history.
He might be a little young right now but eventually he might like an author named GA Henty who does adventures for boys based on british history
