Chris Crutcher basically does nothing but coming of age high school stories. The only one I remember for sure is during senior year is Deadline, with a main character who learns at the beginning that he’s dying. Great story.
On the other end of the emotional spectrum, I also really love The Education Of Robert Nifkin by Daniel Pinkwater. It’s a semi autobiographical story about a kid coming of age in 1950s Chicago who manages to get into a school that’s not as hung up on unimportant things like “grades” and “sanity.” It’s very funny, as all Pinkwater’s books are, and one of his few that are both non-fantasy and focused on older teens.
