I’m both into books and music. Over the years, I’ve tracked new album releases from numerous bands and noticed the expanding gap between the announcement and the actual release, mainly due to the resurgence of the vinyl format. Nowadays, many fans desire a limited edition colored vinyl version of their favorite artist’s new release. However, due to the limited number of places capable of manufacturing these, production times lengthen as demand increases.

But the book industry is a totally different animal. Almost every time I see that a writer I like announces a new book, I’m bummed to see that the waiting time to actually have the book in my hands/screen will be about 9 months, possibly even more. I know that being patient is a virtue, but still…

Obviously, any new release has to be actually printed, but I’m sure that there’s no shortage of places to do so. And yeah, promotion is important as well, but I’m sure that handing out a few ARCs for reviewing purposes doesn’t need to take that long.

So, why do you think it does? Please, help this noob find out.
