So… I have been recently following a redditor who is translating “Dogra Magra” from Japanese and French to English. It has great success and a lot of people have been loving that, as well as me. Meanwhile, “Les Bonnes” (“The Maids”) by Jean Genet is my favourite modern play, having themes of reason vs emotion and also submissiveness and dominance as a character trait and a view in the human psyche. The English translations I’ve found are kinda bad, not describing things in good detail, showing things in the wrong way or entirely skipping things. On the other hand, the Greek translation by O. Elytis, winner of the 1973 nobel prize in literature, is one with amazing images, direct and living emotion as well as getting the meaning across with accurate lines and feelings. I was thinking of translating the Greek version to English but I’m not sure if people would be into that… I just really wanna share my book and as a native Greek speaker as well as having a C2 diploma in English by Michigan, it feels right to share this with people and get feedback on my vision. Would anyone be interested in that? Please be kind!
