Back in high school through mid-college, I was always reading, was really a passion of mine, but for whatever reason, I stopped c. 2016.

But these last few months, I’ve been wanting to get back into reading books, new year around the corner and I’ve been experiencing a lot of changes in my life (moving to a new country, getting married, etc.), so it just feels like the right time to return to the literary world.

The problem is, I don’t really know where to start. I’ve been doing some solo research on how to get back into reading as an adult, but finding actual recs that look interesting to me is a bit tricky, so I wanted to come here for something a bit more personalized.

I’m primarily looking for an easy, more casual read that you’d consider a must read, or one of your favorites, just in general. More specifics:

    – I’m pretty open to most things, I’m not too hot on high/political fantasy or like, really gruesome or violent horror.

    – Historically, I have leaned more towards sci-fi & cyberpunk-y works.

    – I also generally like stuff that is WEIRD and truly unique. I think watching anime consumed my time I spent reading the last few years, and shows like Serial Experiments Lain, Texhnolyze, and Mawaru Penguindrum are some of my all-time favorites, if this means anything to anyone here lol

    – I’m not too caught up on like modern fiction, most of what I was into when I was a reader was YA or classic lit…open to both still, but very interested to see what’s good & hot in the book world rn

    – Book I’ve been reading is Fourth Wing per my mom who loved it and sent me a copy. And I love my mom and I’m happy she thinks of me enough to order me a book to my new home, but I’m about halfway through and like… I’m not SUPER into it, it’s definitely starting to lose me. This is the only thing I’ve even attempted to read in the last like 8 years (not counting manga).

Anyway, I’m at the library rn coincidentally and just blindly browsing is intimidating, so I appreciate any and all suggestions! I don’t post on Reddit often, so hope I did this right. Thank you 🙂
