I mean, I get how, “you are secretly a WIZARD/Prince/demigod/blahblah” is appealing to youngsters who long for that sort of thing, and havent read that many books.
But I have to say, it’s tedious, and frankly annoying, to have almost every book go in that direction.
I love good scifi. I love good fantasy. But its getting so hard to find GOOD books in either genre that dont revolve around the main character either being, or finding, the uber-powerful mcguffin.
Good example:
The whole “tales from the golden age of the solar clipper” series by Nathan Lowell
Well written hard scifi.
Sure, the character has a bit of slightly abnormal luck 🙂 But its not some kind of outlandish being-from-another-dimention-gives-you-superpowers kind of thing. Its all quite possible for literally anyone.
I wish it was easier to find this kind of plot and writing outside of pure reality-based fiction.
