As the title states, I read all 8 Dexter books by Jeff Lindsay 100% on the toilet. I didn’t read a single page while standing or in any other room of the house. Kind of fitting considering the only ones of the entire series I liked were the 1st and last book, but I’m curious if others have done the same and what book/series was it?
In regard to the books themselves, I felt a bit disappointed for the most part. Not sure if I soured the experience by watching the TV series first, but I expected the main character, Dexter, to be a bit more … likeable? For all his talking in the books about how good he was at his little ‘hobby’, I found that for the most part, a lot of it was just hot air. He makes stupid mistakes while in the process of boasting about his prowess and it just kept throwing me off. I found the TV Dexter much more likeable and competent when it came to making people disappear.
And his sister was intollerable and incompetent through most of the books. I felt like she couldn’t accomplish anything without the help of her brother. Constantly belittling him while at the same time asking him to use those same skills to help her on just about every case.
Of couse it wasn’t all bad. Things really picked up in the last book and I actually found myself excited to return to my throne room to see what happens next after finishing things up.
Not sure what I’ll be moving on to next but would love to hear about some of your favorite ‘Restroom Reads’.
edit: Just to clear some things up, no one needs to be concerned with my diet or how long I’m on the toilet. My bum is working perfectly normal and healthy. Surely I’m not the only one who reads while ‘sitting’. It’s not really different than swiping on your phone, which I never do and most of you probably DO relate to.
