I hope the title makes sense, but I was wondering if there were books that, in the past, you absolutely adored, but now, looking back with a 2023 lense, you think of them as shocking or inappropriate.
For me, it’s Daddy Long Legs by Jean Webster. I truly LOVED it when I read it as a kid, as I thought it was funny, but also tender, with a nice romantic plot twist. But now, when I think about the romance of this book, all I see are red flags haha: a young girl with a much older guy (20 years age gap I think?), that managed to assert power over her, by sending her to university against monthly letters he never responds to, some gifts here and there when she’s about to stop writing to him, and he catfishes her by being present in her life without ever telling her he was Daddy-Long-Legs all this time 😂
