I’ve just finished reading Sōseki’s Botchan, and while I really enjoyed it, I find like it’s missing something. Throughout the first part of the book, we get a thorough view on Botchan’s relationship with Kiyo, she’s this loving, caring and altruistic mother figure, and I couldn’t help but imagine her as my own mother and get emotionally attached to her, unfortunately she’s then forgotten for the rest of the book, until the end and she gets a really short paragraph, oh yeah I went to see her, she was happy and yeah she died shortly after… I hate how he gets you really hooked up with a character and then forget about it, are Sōseki’s other books like this?
