I started reading ACOTAR (Edit: A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas) some time last year. I don’t know what I was thinking since I never do this but I bought the first three books all at once – I honestly think I was influenced by social media and because the covers are so striking. Anyway, I love fantasy and have dabbled in some romance. This writing feels shallow over all and Maas loves to tell and not show. (I’m not saying everything a person reads needs to be War and Peace level literature – I get that things can just be created for fun and still have worth.) and don’t get me started on Feyre and Nesta being the most infuriatingly stubborn characters – it’s not cute and quirky, it’s forced and embarrassing. Feyre especially makes such stupid choices that I would just skim through the consequences of her actions because I couldn’t bring myself to suffer through them haha.
Despite having some moments where I physically cringe, I got the last two books for Christmas and I intend to finish them. I just can’t stop myself from reading them despite not liking them at all. My husband laughs at me because I will read a good chunk of it and then go to him to complain about how much I don’t like them. And yet, I’m hooked 🤷🏽♀️ What has Sarah done to these books?? Are they enchanted??
Plus, I’m a lover of fantasy maps and the map of Prythian is just so…lazy…
I’m only ranting because I’m at work and my husband didn’t answer the phone when I called him.
