Armed with 3-5 books, what are the books that would keep you going—that you could read over and over again?
First of all would be the first volume of Sherlock Holmes, because I read it as a child, and it resides in my memory as an explosion when reading how Sherlock solved seemingly impossible mysteries and developed a friendship with someone so unlike him. I remember flying through the pages and running back to the library to get the other two volumes, and the disappointment I felt after I had finished them, only to find out that the volumes I had read did not include *The Hound of the Baskervilles,* which I promptly borrowed.
*A Game of Thrones,* (the first book in A Song of Ice and Fire,) because although it may not be the most action filled book, GRRM is a master of his craft, and the world building in book one is absolutely incredible.
*Walden* (which was recommended to me here,) because of the nature themes, and I think that sharing the solace of nature through time and alternate circumstances may provide a new untapped perspective.
*If Beale Street Could Talk* by the incomparable James Baldwin, which would bring you back to what the human condition once was—also full of pain, but love and happiness as well.
Edit: I forgot to add *The Adventures of Tintin!* I loved them all as a child. They still hold up today and the cartoon style is visually stimulating enough to want to look at over and over again.
