I was gifted the set for Xmas; I’m usually a sci-fi and fantasy reader, but I can’t put these books down! I’m currently on Book 2: *Their Finest Hour* – just finished Book 1: *The Gathering Storm* -the scope of the narrative is as epic as any fiction I have ever read.
Churchill is about as authoritative an author as you could get on the subject, but I also get the feeling that some of the work is also quite self-serving. So, the unreliable author aspect just makes it even more interesting!
The book is chock full of primary sources, mostly in the form of personal letters, (his correspondence with FDR being of particular interest) telegrams, military orders, etc. I’m wondering what others thought of the work.
