It’s past two am here, and I can’t stop thinking about this book. It’s one of those books that I’ll be sitting and stewing over for the next week. I went in thinking it was a horror, but this was more thriller/psychological genre. This may be why I’m having trouble deciding how I feel about it. You read the blurb and expect one thing, and it’s totally different after finishing the book.
The POV was enjoyable. I love it when a book reads like a memoir or an autobiography but is actually fiction. The writing took some getting used to with the lack of quotation marks, but considering I read Normal People – I got used to it fairly quick. The lack of quotations added to the unreliable narrator and the chaos that was ensuing. How would you interpret “The Hum”? >!Psychological or a supposed pipe leak? If it were a pipe leak, I’d argue that surely Claire’s daughter and husband would have been affected too, would they not?!<
Looking back at the politics of a cult or what makes a cult and how one begins was interesting. Especially seeing as more of cults’ inner workings are able to be seen with modern-day technology as it unfolds. ie. Twin Flames, Love Has Won, Stolen Youth etc.
Since I’ve not seen anyone else really talking about the book – I’d love for anyone to share any thoughts/feelings/perceptions they have after finishing the book! Maybe I missed something that someone else picked up on!
