just watched [this documentary](https://youtu.be/0oosdgHLTGY?si=8Bjr0blBpcim5gpl) about surrealist arts patron and English aristocrat Edward James, and I’m thinking about who else would fit under the banner of “the last of the great Eccentrics” …. I would like to read more life stories (probably non fiction, but open to fiction) about consummate weirdos who led elaborately unique life paths. Usually they’re able to do this because they’re independently wealthy and afforded certain liberties for their time period. Maybe they’re loners or maybe they’re socialites. Seems a lot of them are English aristocrats? And patrons of the arts? Or independent scholars? Bonus if they’re women!
