What the title says.
I buy a lot of books and I have never experienced this before. I did get a brand-new book recently that smelled bad at first, and I suspected the ink only because I know publishers are looking for less toxic inks to use and a lot of new books don’t smell like they used to.
Anyway, I wonder if this perfumed book was an attempt to hide an unappealing ink (or glue?) issue. Whatever the reason, the perfume is a huge disservice and a special little misery.
Is this a new thing in publishing or in book retail?
Whatever the reason, now I need to get the perfume out of it. As I say, it has been in a ziplock bag with a new, open box of baking soda for three days and the intensity of the scent is still off the charts. What else can I do?
Thank you for any help you can offer. Also, if anyone has any general knowledge of perfuming books, who and why, I’m curious.
