Hello everybody,
today i’ve begun reading Midnights Children by Salman Rushdie. While it’s definitely an interesting read so far, I find myself experiencing difficulty grasping the significance of the events that unfold, especially within a broader historical context. I understand that the story is in some way supposed to be allegorical for Indias partition, so i think my lack of knowledge surrounding India’s history may dampen the overall impact of the book for me. I’m about 100 pages in, and while I understand for the most part what is going on, there are large chunks of text that are just incredibly hard to follow. I was wondering if anybody here has also read the novel and has a similar experience. as somebody of south asian descent i am eager to learn about this part of history but maybe I need to read more about it before i jump back into the book.
