Reading dark books is nice but I need a silver lining. Anyone have something lighthearted, recent, and not miserable? It can be romance (preferably m/m), fantasy, historical, etc. i just need something that doesn’t remind me of my mortality, or another person’s mortality, or just tackles dark topics over and over.

I love the Mapp and Lucia books by EF Benson when I feel like this, they are snarky comedies of manners set in early 20th-century England that never fail to make me laugh.
You may also want to check out the cozyfantasy subreddit, there’s a long list of lighter-hearted fantasy books there.
Read Anne of Green Gables if you haven’t already. Nothing but charm. It’s not m/m though, it’s from the 1900s
I finished a brilliant feel good read with quirky dark humour just recently. Try [The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune.](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/45047384-the-house-in-the-cerulean-sea)
