The scam site, and it clearly is one, is disgusting to customers.
1. They allow scammers free reign over the marketplace, sending awful or fraudulent books with fake covers as new. These sellers get 5 stars because they finesse any refunds and make the process impossible.
2. Ratings losses only happen when a customer successfully refunds a book. Which the fraudsters make impossible.
Please whatever you do, do not use abebooks. They are horrible for customers and outright running frauds on people. Stick to consumer friendly used books like local stores and ebay.
A common tactic of the consumer abusers: They will send you a replacement offering it for free, jamming you with something worse less than shipping. So that refunding becomes even more expensive etc. The practices are disgusting and unbelievable from any online selling site. Please avoid abebooks, it’s terrible. I really wish there was more warnings and cautions online about using this site versus the others.

It’s been about a decade since I used them last, but it was a great site to purchase international editions of textbooks. I can’t recommend them strongly enough for that purpose.
