I feel like it’s contradictory to say lighthearted and dark fantasy or horror fantasy together but I just don’t really care for heavily morose fantasy.
I’m looking for something a little more adult than goosebumps, preferably contemporary fantasy with that sort of horror mystery vibe to it. It doesn’t have to be too lighthearted, I just don’t want to be put into a bummer mood because it’s constantly bad vibes or whatever.
Sorry, I feel like I’m kinda all over the place with this. I just wanna get into the mood of the season and I love fantasy fiction a lot. I mostly read older fantasy, REH, Lieber, recently started Thieves’ World, but I’d like to read something more set in semi modern day, with the themes related to Halloween and that sort of paranormal vibe, but, if possible, without it being just an outright horror story. I know that’s kinda confusing, sorry. I suppose the show Stranger Things would be a good comparison. Likable characters, a good focus on character friendships and such, and preferably a series.
