I’m burnt out on reading the same cookie-cutter ish fantasy/romance plot where something big is happening in the world but the focus is on a man and a woman whose inner monologue is 90% about this other person and little care is given to worldbuilding, magic, tech, etc.
I want more Martha Wells’ All Systems Red or Jason Pargin’s Zoe Ashe series. Or even Jay Kristoff’s Nevernight. Just something good and fun and non romantic? And for the love of libraries, ADULT. Please don’t recommend YA titles.
I’d even love a good fan fic at this point.
I recently loved Helluva Boss (show from YouTube) and would die to find a book with the same feel.
I’m really looking for a found family story, or something epic that isn’t “mantasy” (fantasy for male interest, I’m here for the female characters tbh). Bonus points if it has queer characters.
(Sanderson is mantasy and I won’t read it but it is always recommended for some reason…so I’ll just head it off and say don’t bother, it’s not good for this reader.)
