A couple months ago I started a new book cause I heard it was a modern retelling of the Iliad. I’d always wanted to read the original stories of the famous myths like the Iliad and Odyssey and I definitely think about the Roman Empire/Greeks every other day thanks to Rick Riordan so this definitely is my type of book. And thus far going in blind with virtually bare-bones knowledge of the plot has made my reading experiences much more enjoyable cause I love being surprised. So I begin the first couple chapters and just from the way the narrator is describing things about his friend Achilles and going real odd details about his muscles and his body…I’m like yo, dude is sus. But in my head I’m like naw I’m just reading into the texts too much. This is a war story about the Trojan wars, retelling of Homer’s poems these dudes are badass the battle is coming…I get further in and not only is it a man on man romance (they are technically adopted brothers) there is a whole detailed spice scene that I get to. I do not do romance stories or spice and as a straight male Christian this ain’t my cup of tea. Anyway I say all this to say songs of Achilles is a 10/10 the writing is phenomenal and story is superb.
